Spencer Fair

Albert E. "Sonny" Andrews Jr.

It is with mixed feelings, sadness because Sonny is no longer with us but happiness because we had the opportunity to know him, that we dedicate the 2007 Spencer Fair to the memory of Albert E. “Sonny” Andrews Jr. of Spencer. Sonny joined the Spencer Agricultural Association in 1967 and held many positions throughout the years. Among those were director, advertising and programming, special attractions, outside exhibit space, premium book, vice president and he served as president for two 3-year terms in 1974 – 1976 and 1989 – 1991.

His great love was the tractor pull. Sonny’s first year pulling was 1957 and he continued to pull off and on for about 40 years. He also helped with the operation of the tractor pull during the early 1970’s.

Sonny was a dairy farmer for 55 years and owned and operated Andrews Farm in Spencer. He was also an active 4-H member in his youth and a tractor club leader as an adult. Over the years he was active in other agricultural organizations, coached merchant league basketball and was a school bus driver after retiring from milking cows.

Sonny was a loving, caring husband to Nancy for 51 years (after meeting her at Spencer Fair) and a devoted father of six daughters: Debbie, Donna, Darlene, Dale, Denise, and Diana. He was grandfather to 14, great-grandfather to 6, brother to 3 and son to Carole and Albert Sr. who died in 2005.

Sonny was respected and loved by many and will be deeply missed.
